Spotify and Instagram announced a new partnership on Tuesday (May 1) that will allow users to share what their listening to via their Instagram Stories or Instagram Direct and encourage their followers to tune in as well.

Through the new feature, users can share music to Instagram using Spotify’s “share” menu, tapping the Instagram Stories option. Then the app will unlock custom cover art stickers for each song, album, playlist or artist on Spotify, allowing use of Instagram’s editing tools to enhance and personalize the pic before sharing.

When people see the shared songs in Instagram, they will be able to tap a “Play on Spotify” button in the top left corner of their screen to then hear the music in the streaming app.

“The music world lives on Instagram — three out of the top 5 most-followed accounts belong to music artists,” said Shavone Charles, global music & youth culture, communications at Instagram. “Music fans come to Instagram to express themselves and discover new content from their favorite artists, and we’re making that easier with the ability to share directly from Spotify.”

As of Tuesday, the function was not available for all Spotify users but a rep from Instagram says it should be soon. Spotify will soon be integrated into Facebook Stories as well.
