The National and The xx will headline a new 10-day event in east London next summer, the Standard can reveal.

Four more artists will soon be announced as the other headliners for All Points East, which will host 40,000 people and focus on “credible and more independently focused” acts. The festival, in Victoria Park, will have a similar format to the hugely successful Barclaycard presents British Summer Time in Hyde Park.

There will be two weekends of concerts, based around four weekdays of activities including comedy, outdoor cinema and family entertainment — some of which will be free.

London trio The xx will play on May 26, followed by critically acclaimed American band The National on June 2. The latter will be supported by The War On Drugs, Future Islands, Warpaint and The Districts. Further additions to the line-up will be announced shortly, with 200 further acts to be named.

The National said: “After a thrilling four sold-out shows at the Eventim Apollo in September, we are excited to take over Victoria Park next summer. We are already thinking about ways to make this more than just a show.”

The first weekend will be known as the All Points East Festival, with the following weekend consisting of three, stand-alone headline shows called APE Presents. The event will serve food and drink sourced from local suppliers, and sell merchandise bought through the Tower Hamlets clothing industry.

It is being organised by AEG Presents, the firm behind British Summer Time. Jim King, executive vice president of live music, said: “All Points East will be ten days of amazing live music, food, enjoyment and positive community engagement. It’s about seeing the best artists, with the best production in one of the UK’s truly great community parks.

"We are thrilled to be able to launch this new festival concept and bring some of the world’s most exciting artists to Victoria Park. We’re confident that this is the most exciting new event in the country. We are aiming to attract the fans of credible and more independently focused artists. When you see the full line-up, then the vision for what we are aiming to deliver creatively should hopefully be very clear.”

Tickets for APE Presents The National go on sale on Friday and can be bought here. Tickets for the festival weekend headlined by The xx goes on sale on November 3. Details at allpointseastfestival.com
