Mick Clark



1956-2017

Music industry veteran Mick Clark, 61, died suddenly in hospital on Friday evening his family have announced.

Mick who was often referred to as “the Godfather of UK black music” was a respected A&R man, artist manager and latterly a music supervisor for sync and film projects. He was President of i10 Music Group, the company he founded in 2013.

He discovered and signed the likes of Soul II Soul, Leftfield, Maxi Priest, Loose Ends and Grooverider to a range of labels during a career which included stints at Columbia Records, Virgin Records and Higher Ground where he was Managing Director.

Creation Records founder Alan McGee, who worked with Mick on a number of projects in recent years said, “Mick was a musical genius - up until a week ago he was excitedly telling me about some great producer ideas. His sudden passing is a huge shock to me and the many people who loved him.”

Mick is survived by his two sons Jamie and Callum.

Funeral details are still being finalised and there will be a further announcement in due course.
