Influential broadcaster and DJ Pete Tong has joined Three Six Zero Recordings as president. Tong will oversee the recorded music division at the year-old label, a joint venture between Sony Music and global management firm Three Six Zero. He will remain in his duties at WME.

Tong’s taste-making work on BBC’s Radio 1 and success as a clubland DJ will serve him well at the label, which aims to establish a strong presence in electronic music by building upon its current roster of clients as well as finding new talent. As president, Tong will also oversee soundtracks for film and TV content produced by Three Six Zero.

“Pete has been a supporter of Three Six Zero since our first record was played on the radio,” said Three Six Zero CEO, Mark Gillespie. “It’s inspiring to have someone with his A&R experience, knowledge and connectivity joining our creative team.”

Added Rob Stringer, CEO of Sony Music: “Pete is obviously a legendary innovator in dance music globally so him joining this exciting new chapter of Three Six Zero is a huge coup for Mark and in turn for Sony Music!”

Operations for the label will be split between Los Angeles and London. Three Six Zero also has offices in Calabasas, Calif. and Tokyo, boasting a client list that includes Calvin Harris, Tiësto, Shameik Moore, Louis Tomlinson, Brady Corbet and the entire Smith family (Will, Jada Pinkett, Jaden and Willow).

Tong is widely considered a leading ambassador of electronic music and in 2014 was appointed member of the Order of the British Empire for his work in broadcasting and music. He previously worked as the A&R director for London Records / FFRR and also co-founded the International Music Summit, which holds annual events in Ibiza, Los Angeles and China. In 2008, Tong joined WME and co-created the electronic music division, where he will continue to consult as partner and client.

“I’m looking forward to joining forces with Mark and his team to build a label that embraces a fresh approach, offering artists a unique home in the modern marketplace,” said Tong. “Our goal is to release some great music, amplify the artists vision and move the needle.”
