In the months preceding its release as a single in February 1990, a song played regularly by the DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall, who has died aged 56, became a favourite at his club nights. Awash in ecstasy, the British club scene was still basking in the dying rays of the second summer of love, and Loaded, which Weatherall would drop into his set in the middle of the night, would become part of its soundtrack. Nobody guessed who the track was by, and the big reveal on its release was a shocker. Weatherall had taken a song by the Scottish band Primal Scream, I’m Losing More Than I’ll Ever Have, and essentially dismantled it.
