Guy Moot, Carianne Marshall Set As Warner/Chappell’s New Leadership Team

Warner/Chappell Music Publishing announced this morning (Jan. 9) its plans for its new leadership team following the departure of Jon Platt.

Warner/Chappell Music Publishing announced this morning (Jan. 9) its plans for its new leadership team following the departure of Jon Platt: Guy Moot, most recently Sony/ATV Music Publishing’s president of worldwide creative, has been named W/C’s new co-chairman/CEO; while current COO Carianne Marshall has been named co-chairman/COO. The announcement was made by Warner Music Group CEO Stephen Cooper.

Moot is expected to join the company in the first half of the year, while Marshall has been leading the transition team since Platt’s departure was announced last September. Both will report directly to Cooper.

“This leadership duo will be unlike any other in music publishing, and help us emphasize our unique approach at Warner/Chappell,” Cooper said in an internal memo obtained by Billboard. “It will give us real creative and commercial advantages as we sign and develop a new generation of world-class hit-makers, open up fresh opportunities for our legendary catalog, and mentor a winning team.

“Guy and Carianne are inspiring, innovative execs who have championed many of the world’s greatest songwriters, while being passionate advocates for the value of music and proponents of new technology,” Cooper continued. “They bring beautifully complementary talents and experiences to the Warner/Chappell culture — with Guy’s visionary A&R strength backed by outstanding global operational expertise, and Carianne’s entrepreneurial business savvy coupled with impeccable creative instincts.”

Platt, who led Warner/Chappell as chairman/CEO since taking over in October 2015, exited W/C before the end of the year, and will be taking over for outgoing Sony/ATV chief Martin Bandier.

Moot, who also held the title of U.K. managing director at Sony/ATV, had served as president of worldwide creative since 2017, and helped lead the merger of Sony/ATV and EMI Music Publishing in 2012 after a decade at the latter company. Marshall, meanwhile, had been a partner and head of creative services and creative licensing for SONGS Music Publishing for more than a decade until this past April, when she was tapped for Warner/Chappell’s COO role under Platt. She will now lead the company in partnership with Moot.

Hi everyone,

Many of you will have seen the speculation in the press, so I wanted you to hear from me as soon as possible about the leadership of Warner/Chappell. A formal announcement will be made at the appropriate time, but I’m excited to say that Guy Moot will be joining us in the first half of the year as Co-Chair & CEO, while Carianne Marshall is being promoted to Co-Chair & COO. Both Guy and Carianne will report to me.

This leadership duo will be unlike any other in music publishing, and help us emphasize our unique approach at Warner/Chappell. It will give us real creative and commercial advantages as we sign and develop a new generation of world-class hit-makers, open up fresh opportunities for our legendary catalog, and mentor a winning team. Guy comes to Warner/Chappell from Sony/ATV Music Publishing, where he has been President, Worldwide Creative & UK Managing Director. Carianne joined the company this past June, having been a Principal Partner at independent music publisher SONGS. Her new appointment is effective immediately, and she’ll be running the company with me until Guy’s arrival. Guy is planning to be based in London as well as in LA, with Carianne, at Warner Music Group’s new downtown offices.

I want to thank the entire team at Warner/Chappell for doing an outstanding job during this transition, continuing to work tirelessly to provide unparalleled service to songwriters across the globe. I know that Guy and Carianne will be fantastic partners in continuing to transform the company and pioneer the future of music.

If you’re interested in learning more about Guy and Carianne, I’ve included bios on them below. Congratulations to them both!
