Laura Marling’s new album Song For Our Daughter, which she has brought forward to be released on Good Friday at a time when most other artists are kicking their intended new releases out into the long grass of autumn, begins with a fantastic song called Alexandra, which takes an alternative look at the woman who inspired Leonard Cohen’s Alexandra Leaving.

Song For Our Daughter is Marling’s first album since 2017’s Semper Femina and it establishes her as the great modern British singer-songwriter, a Joni Mitchell for the millennial generation.
