★★★☆☆
When a band mention pigs no fewer than seven times in their name you know you must be dealing with something seriously heavy, and these porcine multipliers from Newcastle do not disappoint. Viscerals is a gloriously horrible morass of pummelling drums, doom-laden riffs and the tormented yowl of the singer Matt Baty, although the Pigs do get groovy every now and then, and you can almost dance to Rubbernecker.

Titles such as the Twisted Sister-like Crazy in Blood and the thrash-metalling World Crust tell their own stories. The spoken-word Blood and Butter finds a restaurant waiter announcing a signature dish containing “poison made with the cheapest ingredients possible”. It is all wonderfully silly. (Rocket)
