The recurrent dreadfulness of Radio 4 comedy is a bit like a humanitarian disaster on the other side of the world. Yes, it’s bad; yes, you wish it wasn’t happening; but what are you realistically going to do to change things? Best to turn off the radio and stop thinking about it. Sometimes, things get so awful that intervention becomes necessary. As the Times radio critic I feel moved to issue a unilateral condemnation of Radio 4’s new coronavirus-themed “comedy” podcast Now Wash Your Hands.
